‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ release date: First ‘technical alpha’ test goes live this week; here’s how to join
The first technical alpha test of “Diablo 2: Resurrected” is going live later this week. Like with other Blizzard games, access to this phase will be on an invitation-only basis. However, there are ways for fans to get a chance of being one of the participants.
Blizzard announces first ‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ gameplay test
Blizzard announced in a blog post on Tuesday that the first “Diablo 2: Resurrected” technical alpha test will commence on Friday, April 9. However, the studio has already made it clear that access will be granted to “a limited amount of PC players.”
Invitations for the first “Diablo 2: Resurrected” alpha test were sent on April 6. Only the fans who have previously registered have the chance to be invited, but the good news is Blizzard confirmed there will be more tests to be conducted after the first alpha-stage trial.
Blizzard has yet to announce the next technical alpha test, but the first round will run through Monday, April 12, at 10 a.m. PT only. Fans can throw their names in the hat through the Tech Alpha Opt-In option on this website. While “Diablo 2: Resurrected” is already for pre-purchase, it does not guarantee an alpha and beta test invitation as of this moment.
Developers are usually cagey when it comes to the content made available in alpha and beta tests. However, Blizzard confirmed that “Diablo 2: Resurrected” fans participating in the event this weekend will be “allowed to capture, record, or stream” their experience. The upcoming alpha test, which Blizzard said will be the “first of multiple tests” will let fans try the single-player gameplay.
‘Diablo 2: Resurrected’ release date, gameplay: What to expect
When “Diablo 2: Resurrected” was first mentioned in a leak in late 2020, the game was initially referred to as a remake. It usually means there are more gameplay tweaks other than visuals improvements or resolution and framerate boosts. However, developers set the record straight last month and referred to the upcoming game as a “full remaster” of the popular hack-and-slash from 2000.
The remaster will also include the expansion “Lord of Destruction.” Developers also confirmed that long-time fans will be able to load their old saved files from the original game and onto “Diablo 2: Resurrected” once it launches later this year.
